High Vinalls
As well as being the location of the Specialized Series courses, there is also a Downhill course across
the road for those of you who know where, ridden, weather permitting all
year round, as it’s not on private land.
It is located a few Kms to the south west of Ludlow in an area called
the High Vinalls (excuse my spelling), it’s a forested hill that has
been extensively worked on, with many different sections, drops, chutes,
jumps, burms it’s got just about everything.
Top to bottom it’s about 1000m long very twisty and rooty, nice. When
wet it’s very slippy and has a fair amount of standing water as you can
see from the pictures, great.
Where
At the bottom of the hill there’s a car park, from there you head out
the back and go left up the first hill that comes along, take the first
right off the forestry track and wind your way to the top, try and
remember where you see the course crossing the track as this will help
you get orientated quicker on your first couple of runs. Keep heading
up until you come to a wooden tower on the top of the hill. With your
back to the tower standing on the track, you should be able to see the
start of the single track about 20m to your left get on it, pedal like
mad, its well worth the push up and the next 5-6 that you’ll do straight
after.
When you finally drop onto the last track go left and follow your
nose, you’ll end up back at the car park or they’re a bout’s, then push
back up contemplating where you can go faster next time.
