Info and advice
Swaledale is an area in the north of
the Yorkshire Dales it has an extremely interesting past stretching back to
when it used to be the centre of Roman Lead mining in Britain.
The area is a National Park and as
such there are a lot of rights of way for countryside users such as
ourselves. This coupled with the areas industrial past and the fact that
much of the moor land is managed for Grouse shooting gives the Mountain
biker excellent access to the whole area.
Reeth, is a small
market town with numerous pubs and cafes which is just what every cyclist
needs. There is also a tourist info centre which gives loads of info on the
areas past and local advice.
Richmond
is the nearest Town of any size, with pubs, restaurants, accommodation and a
bike shop.
If you want to hire a bike or take a guided ride in
Swaledale, try Stu at Dales
Mountain Bike Hire or if it's a local club your after try the
Swaledale Outdoor Club.
Below are a 2 of my favourite routes
loosely based around Reeth. I
have used OS Leisure 30 Yorkshire Dales northern & central areas, 1:25000.
